Downtown, Venice, San Pedro and North Hollywood are among Los Angeles districts whose businesses and artists have teamed up to throw once-a-month parties to show off their slice of the city. Now, Westwood Village merchants will join the fray by debuting Westwood LIVE on April 21 at 5 pm, with plans on making the third Thursday of the month all theirs.
Westwood LIVE looks to recapture the spirit of the Janss Family and their 1929 vision for a genuine village at the edge of UCLA while bringing back the spark and pizzazz generated by countless movie premieres at iconic theaters such as the Bruin and Village Theatres during the ensuing decades.
This party will be a group effort, as more than two-dozen businesses have signed on for exhibitions, live music, restaurant discounts and other draws to keep more people in the Village after the sun goes down.
Westwood LIVE's looking to offer something for everyone. That means live music at the Geffen Playhouse, Palomino restaurant and Hammer Museum; drink specials and karaoke at Barney's Beanery; a DJ and extended happy hour at Napa Valley Grille; extended happy hour and an after-party at the W Los Angeles – Westwood's NINETHIRTY restaurant and Whiskey Blue club; and even $25 gentleman's hot towel and razor shave at Village institution Oakley's Barber Shop.
And, lest anyone wants to catch a good flick while there, Regency Theatres is offering free popcorn to moviegoers after 5 p.m. at both the Village and Bruin.
