LA visitors no longer have to go home without seeing a celebrity up close and personal, thanks to Madame Tussauds Hollywood. Rest assured, this isn’t your grandparents’ museum where the figures look like stiffs; Madame Tussauds’ staff has perfected the art of bringing celebrities to life, and now you’ll get a chance to walk the red carpet with the stars, pose with them for pictures and even give an awards speech with Oscar®-winner Halle Berry.
Beyoncé Knowles and Jamie Foxx were among the first of more than 100 celebrity wax figures created for the $55 million Madame Tussauds Hollywood. These two figures, which cost about $300,000 each to make, joined other stars like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Bruce Willis, David Beckham, James Dean and Charlie Chaplin. The attraction features three floors and 18 themed zones, so many you’ll have to visit and experience them all in person. Ask yourself that classic Hollywood question: "Who do I want to meet?" Here’s a breakdown of some of the highlighted areas you won’t want to miss.
Red Carpet Arrivals
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to attend a movie premiere or awards ceremony in Hollywood, you’ll have a chance to experience the glittering life of movie stars. Take a walk on the red carpet with the likes of Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman, ready and willing for a photo-op with you. Of course, what would the red carpet be without the infamous Joan Rivers? You’ll have a chance to either get lauded or roasted for your fashion choices.
A-List Party
Brag to your friends that you hung out with Beyoncé when you went to LA, and if they don’t believe you, break out pictures of the two of you, plus all the other A-List stars at the Madame Tussauds after party. Elton John, George Clooney, Justin Timberlake, Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Julia Roberts...The list goes on and on, and they’re waiting for you to party.
Westerns
Real cowboys go straight to the Westerns section of Madame Tussauds, where Clint Eastwood is recruiting willing gunslingers. If you’re outlaw enough, you’ll join him in a “Wanted Poster” to prove you’ve got guts enough to run with the likes of John Wayne, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, all of whom are portrayed in their hit roles as Western stars.
Crime
Join fellow wiseguys in the crime experience in the attraction, and hopefully the Godfather himself, Marlon Brando, will welcome you into the family. If not, you’ll probably be looking down the barrel of Al Pacino’s "little friend" from Scarface. If Pacino doesn’t get you, Robert De Niro will gladly fulfill the obligation. But that’s a cake walk compared to meeting Hannibal Lecter face to face.
Modern Classics
If life is like a box of chocolates, Madame Tussauds is no different, especially in this modern classics section. You just never know what you’re going to get, whether it’s Tom Hanks playing Forrest Gump or Eddie Murphy getting into trouble as Detective Axel Foley from Beverly Hills Cop. Want more action? Step into the ring with Sylvester Stallone in a reenactment of Rocky’s classic fight scene (we dare you to knock him out). Winner gets to hang out with Mrs. Robinson from The Graduate or get beamed aboard the Starship Enterprise.
American Idol – Simon Cowell
If you’re a glutton for punishment, Madame Tussauds' special “American Idol” section is perfect for you. Have Ryan Seacrest pull your favorite song and yes, you’ll actually have a chance to perform for show biz’s harshest critic, Simon Cowell. Make no mistake: Simon will comment on your audition. Don’t worry, the worst thing he’s probably said to someone is “There are only so many words in my vocabulary to tell you how awful that really was.”
Action Heroes
Anyone who has ever dreamed about meeting their superheroes in real life now has the chance. Wolverine, Invisible Woman, Ironman, Spiderman — they’re all here to meet and greet. There’s also the swashbuckling Zorro, and for those who didn’t know Arnold Schwarzenegger before he was the Governator, you’ll have a chance to meet the legendary Terminator.
Other Themed Areas
• Spirit of Hollywood: Meet the silver screen icons of Hollywood’s golden era — Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire and more.
• Making Movies: Get an all-access backstage pass and meet the stars while they’re at work. Jim Carrey, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Robin Williams and Cameron Diaz are available for photo-ops.
• Sports: Fans don’t usually get a chance to give Tiger Woods a tip on the green or play man-on-man against Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant. If you’ve got it in you, beat Lance Armstrong down the final straightaway or test your half-pipe skills with Tony Hawk.
• Awards Ceremony: This is what Hollywood is all about — to see and be seen. There’s no better place to do it than at an awards ceremony attended by Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry and other award-winning stars.
