The latest installment of this wildly popular entertainment company involves a cast of 72 performers bringing together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences and animation to re-create the history of cinema for audiences. The magic of movie-making is an important theme for the show, not only because of its iconic location (after all, the Oscars are held at the theater, too), but also because of the medium’s artistic, social and cultural impact on the world and how movies have inspired Cirque du Soleil’s productions.
Ten touring productions have visited Los Angeles since 1987, giving nearly 3 million people the chance to see Cirque du Soleil’s breathtaking performances. The addition of a resident show at the Kodak Theatre is another important step in the revitalization of the vibrant Hollywood community for both locals and visitors.
Cirque du Soleil and its founder Guy Laliberté received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a ceremony that kicked off the festivities leading up to the opening of the LA show.
