LA’s time to take its position as a serious food city has arrived. And dineLA wants to make sure the world knows.
With the growing impact of “foodie” tourism, or visitors who travel for specific culinary experiences, Los Angeles is looking to draw attention to its rich, diverse restaurant scene. With thousands of restaurants, LA offers varied dining experiences, from quaint and kitschy to red-carpet treatment, from celebrity chefs and top-rated cuisine to short order legends and bar-stool gourmet, the possibilities are endless in LA!
In order to help visitors and locals understand the array of dining options, LA INC. has teamed together with American Express and the local restaurant industry to introduce dineLA, a strategic marketing program designed to showcase and to promote Los Angeles as one of the world’s premier dining destination.
The first dineLA Restaurant Week was held in January 2008 and featured 143 restaurants from all over LA County. Now a bi-annual event taking place in October and January of each year, the program showcases over 200 restaurants who offer specially priced three-course meals to adventurous, curious diners.
dineLA Restaurant Week is a huge success with restaurants, who see an average 25% increase in sales, as well as diners—an estimated 300,000 of them annually—who are able to explore the LA dining scene in a totally new way.
The dineLA Advisory Committee includes some of LA’s leading culinary personalities who help to guide the focus and priorities of the program. This committee includes Neal and Amy Fraser of Grace and BLD, Ben and Emily Ford of Ford’s Filling Station, Evan Kleiman of Angeli Caffe and KCRW’s “Good Food,” Joachim Splichal of the Patina Group, Suzanne Tracht of Jar, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken of Ciudad and Border Grill and Carl Schuster of Wolfgang Puck Catering to name a few.
dineLA is on track to be the resource for the Los Angeles dining community and visitors who want to sample the city’s culinary offerings. The easy-to-use dineLA.com Web site offers unique editorial features, chef profiles and behind-the-scenes videos, detailed information on more than 2,000 LA-area restaurants, plus must-do food and wine events around town and exclusive foodie sweepstakes.
